PokeMichi Privacy Policy
Plain English first: PokeMichi does not want to know who you are. The sections below say exactly what stays on your phone, what leaves it, and why. The terms are identical in both modes of this site.
This policy describes the data handled by the PokeMichi iOS application. The terms below are identical in both display modes of this site.
The short version
- No account, no sign-up, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking.
- Your binders and collection live on your iPhone. We never receive them.
- Everything else in this policy is about the few places data leaves your phone, and why.
PokeMichi is made by Semi Serious Labs LLC ("we", "us"). This policy covers the PokeMichi app. Our general privacy policy covers the rest of semiseriousllc.com.
1. What stays on your device
- Your collection: binders, pages, the cards in them, notes, and your preferences.
- Your Trainer persona: PokeMichi generates an anonymous Trainer name, an ID tag and an element symbol when you first open the app. You can change them. They are not linked to your real identity unless you put your real name in.
- Search: card search runs entirely against a catalog bundled in the app. Your search terms and recent searches stay on your device.
- Spotlight: your collection may be indexed in iOS Spotlight so you can find it from the Home Screen. That index stays on your device and is controlled by iOS.
2. iCloud Drive backup
If you are signed in to iCloud, PokeMichi saves an automatic backup of your binders and Trainer profile to PokeMichi's iCloud Drive container, so you can restore on a new phone. That backup is stored in your iCloud account and handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. We cannot see or access it. To remove it, go to Settings, tap your name, iCloud, Manage Account Storage, then PokeMichi.
3. Nearby trading (Trade Radar)
When you open Trade Radar, your phone advertises itself over the local network (Bonjour, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth peer-to-peer) so other PokeMichi users nearby can find you. While it is open, nearby devices running PokeMichi can see:
- your Trainer name, ID tag and element symbol.
After one Trainer invites another and the invite is accepted, the two phones exchange their "I Have" and "I Want" card lists, and the trade proposals you send.
This traffic goes directly between the two phones and never passes through our servers. It is not encrypted yet, so trade with people near you. iOS asks for Local Network permission the first time. You can turn it off any time in Settings, Privacy & Security, Local Network.
4. Network requests the app makes
PokeMichi has no server of its own and no account system. It does contact a few third-party services. Those services can see your IP address and the request, like any website you visit.
- Card artwork: card images are downloaded from public image hosts (images.scrydex.com and images.pokemontcg.io) and cached on your device so they load fast next time. The request includes the image address, which identifies the card.
- Page filler art: when you ask for artistic filler suggestions for a page, the app sends a generic search word (for example a color or Pokémon type word, never your name or your collection) to The Metropolitan Museum of Art Open Access API and the Openverse API, then downloads public-domain or CC0 images to show you.
We do not send your binders, Trainer profile or card lists to any of them.
5. Purchases
Collector Pro is bought through the App Store. Apple handles payment and gives the app a signed record of what you own. We never see your payment details. If you ask for help with a purchase, we may need the Apple order details you share with us.
6. Diagnostics
We do not include crash reporting or analytics in the app. If you have chosen to share app analytics with developers in iOS settings, Apple may give us anonymous, aggregated crash and usage information. It cannot identify you.
7. Permissions
- Local Network: only for Trade Radar, as described above.
- iCloud: only for your backup, as described above.
8. Children
PokeMichi is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. We collect almost nothing from anyone, but if you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
9. Your choices and deleting your data
- Delete the app to remove everything stored on your phone, including the cached artwork.
- Remove your iCloud backup as described in section 2.
- Because we do not hold your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side. If you emailed us, ask and we will delete that correspondence.
10. Changes
If we change how PokeMichi handles data, we will update this page and its date, and update the app's App Store privacy details to match.
